William Ruser 14K Gold Bumble Bee Brooch Pin

Offering a unique William Ruser, 14k gold bumblebee pin with dog tooth freshwater pearl wings, and sapphire eyes, in it's original box. I purchased this sweet bee from one of his nieces (here in Inverness, FL) who was given this as a gift in 1948-49, she said he gave each nieces a piece of his jewelry. The brooch weighs 8.78 grams and measures approx. 1" long and 1-1/2" wide from wing to wing, each dog tooth pearl wing is approx 12.25mm.

The well-known Beverly Hills jeweler, William Ruser, started his career at the firm of Trabert & Hoeffer-Mauboussin in Atlantic City, NJ, before being transferred to manage their LA location in the 1930’s. In 1947, he and his wife opened their boutique on Rodeo Dr. While keeping traditional diamond and precious gemstone merchandise in stock, the Rusers’ specialty was baroque, freshwater pearl jewelry. In the 30’s, Ruser had bought several shoe boxes full of these oddly shaped, American pearls from a button manufacturer. Freshwater pearls had been relatively unpopular at the time. In the late 1940’s and throughout the 1950’s, Ruser helped to change this. The Rusers created swans, hummingbirds, poodles, skunks, insects as well as demonic looking cherubs with freshwater pearl accents. Throughout the 1950’s and 60’s, business boomed and Hollywood starlets proudly wore his figural pieces both on and off screen.
