Georges Omerth Bronze Gold Gilt Bird Catcher Sculpture
Offering the "Bird Catcher" a wonderful bronze sculpture of a girl holding a bird cage, while looking at the bird on her right shoulder. Sculpture measures 15-1/2" tall, base measures 6" long. Sculpture is signed G. Omerth on the back. There is some gold gilt loss to the front of her dress by the knee, and on the back shoulder.
Georges Omerth a French artist whose career was short 1895-1925. He is probably best known for his bronzes and chryselephantine figurines and statuettes that often depict young children. Omerth was very versatile as a sculptor. He production range includes animalier pieces in the form of dogs and deer, French military subjects, art nouveau bronzes usually featuring women in hats and bonnets, and art deco sporting statues produced in the 1920s and 1930s depicting tennis, football and golf players.
